From Caroling with Friends to
Supporting Habitat for Humanity
Home For The Holidays was born in 1996 when Oregon Music Hall of Fame singer-songwriter Mark Bosnian decided to bring his love of caroling with friends to the greater Portland community. The first concert featured members of Body and Soul and The Mark Bosnian Trio.
Since then the annual concert has featured artists such as Linda Hornbuckle, members of the country rock band McKenzie River, Satori Men’s Chorus and the Shine Children’s Choir, Stephanie Schneiderman, the Molly Malone Irish Dancers and American Idol semi-finalist Haley Johnsen.
The concert has also featured Hawaiian story tellers, hula dancers, Hannukah singers, African a cappella gospel singers, Armenian holiday chants and some good old fashioned Christmas favorites.
Building Magic Together
To celebrate the 21st anniversary of Home For The Holidays we are returning to our roots and the simple wish to share the joy of song and that awe of experiencing the holidays with child-like wonder.
Our theme this year is Building Magic Together. We have decided to donate 20% of all concert proceeds to Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East to aid their efforts in building and repairing homes in the Portland area for people in need.
The Host Mark Bosnian
Mark is an award winning songwriter (Grand Prize-Portland Music Association Songwriter’s Contest) and was voted into The Oregon Music Hall Of Fame in 2001. As a member of national acts Nu Shooz and Body & Soul, he toured the U.S. and played on The Pat Sajak Show and The NBC Today Show. Mark has sung the National Anthem numerous times at Portland Trailblazer games.
“Bosnian has impressive songwriting skills. His tunes are distinguished by their memorable hooks and intelligent lyrics.”–The Oregonian
“A very talented composer and performer. I’m impressed with his versatility and his ability to work with all types of music.”–Les Sarnoff, KINK FM
Mark is also a confident voice transformation expert who’s worked with Grammy nominated singers, gold record recording stars, American Idol semi-finalists, TNT television stars, singers on the Tonight Show and thousands of people who love to sing and want to experience more confidence when they do…
Ani Avedissian
Ani will open the concert as she has the last two shows, with a moving rendition of a centuries old Armenian folk song.
Brian Pater
Brian is a young renaissance man: an actor, a traceur (Parkour athlete), a speaker of Italian, a sonnet writer, and he’ll be sharing his fabulous singing at the Home For The Holidays Concert.
Shine Children’s Chorus
Shine Children’s Chorus, led by Lauren Fitzgerald, returns to this year’s concert by popular demand. They’re an independent, contemporary children’s chorus with a repertoire from the best of pop, rock, folk, indie, and world music. Shine believes making music together can change our lives and the world.
Lonesome Dewey &
the Christmas Cowboys
Keith Buckley and his intrepid band of merry ukulele pranksters delight audiences with heartwarming holiday fun. Don’t be surprised if an accordion sneaks into their midst, too.
LaRhonda Steele
LaRonda is Portland’s First Lady of the Blues, the 2016 Muddy Award winner for Best Female Vocalist presented by the Cascade Blues Association and directs the Portland Interfaith Gospel Choir. Her CD Rock Me Baby received 4 out of 5 stars in Downbeat Magazine and is currently being played throughout Europe. She’ll be teaching us an African sing along song.
Satori Men’s Chorus
The Satori Men’s Chorus is a group of men who sing for peace. The word Satori means "a fleeting yet transformational moment of enlightenment; an extraordinary experience of grace, wonder and mystery." Satori Members have often experienced "Satori Moments" when the music transcends individual voices; when song and singer become one, even for that fleeting moment. Satori invites you to have one of those moments with them.
Peter Baker Ensemble
Peter is a singer and recording artist with a passion for flying. He’ll be taking us on a journey with his soaring voice and he’ll make sure we all land safely. Book your flight now!
Lily & Maya Mehallick
Lily and Maya are a duo that sing harmonies which blend in a way only sisters’ voices can. Their energy and vocal sound is a perfect compliment to this year’s concert theme: Building Magic Together.
MAC Club Company Dancers
Led by Laura Haney, these young dancers have the goal of dancing in college and beyond. They'll be performing tap as well as improv at the concert. This is their first time at Home For The Holidays, and we can’t wait!
